4350.net You will not find 4350.net advertised anywhere in Toowoomba . . . yet.
4350.net was born from the idea that we all live in postcodes and we could use them to index each region by using yourpostcode.net to form a community network. It's an idea I have been sitting on for a while now and thought I'd better pull out the preverbial and do something that shows some community spirt.
The 4350.net website was developed by Toowoomba Web Design for the Toowoomba community to help provide residents with a relevant internet information resource while promoting local business. As the internet grows larger, it naturally becomes harder to find websites and specific information. Google are a great search engine (I have used them since 1997), but they will eventually fail those who over depend or exclusively rely on their services. It is clear we need local resources to ensure a good cross section of information is delivered locally. I think it is cucial to maintain access integrity in regional areas with local indexing of local websites. 4350.net is not a Google replacement, is in no way a comprehensive directory (or even a real directory), it is a community portal, run by a human, not a machine (is that gonna come back and bite me?), with the possibility of becoming a rich resource of local information and links. Local government bodies can not make a local directory as they (Sensis) have the white and yellow pages. In the future, these publications will go out of print form (imagine the paper - trees saved from one edition) and eventually go digital. The Yellow Pages, Australias largest directory, uses postcodes in searches to deliver information specific to the postcode region.
Are you a Webmaster? 4350 is Toowoomba's postcode and I hope other webmasters will see the benefit in investing in their postcode.net to form a network based on postcodes that can eventually be linked. I have a complete template to set up your own community web portal. If you would like to participate please contact me. |
